Sunday Recap - Oct. 21st

As the church continues to grow, a conflict arises among some of the people whose widows are being overlooked and going hungry. These legitimate needs are not being met in the family of God so the Apostles call a meeting. They decide to chose seven men to step into this area of ministry and because these men were willing to serve, it freed up the apostles to continue to pray and teach God’s word.

Stephen, one of the seven distributing food, is now doing great miracles through the power of God and has favor among the people. He is even debating the religious leaders and winning. They’re jealous so they start slandering him, and they are going to destroy Stephen at whatever cost.

Key Scriptures: “Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people. Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen...who began to argue with Stephen. But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke. Acts 6:8-10 (NIV)

Some Sunday takeaways:

  1. Problems often occur after good things happen - Don’t be surprised when things are going well in the church that conflict breaks out.

  2. When you serve in the church, you are helping more people find God - If you will take ownership, and will completely obey God, you will be used mightily.

  3. If we are faithful in the small things, God will allow us to do mighty works.
